Our dynamic 2019/2020 programme of masterclasses – supported by additional salons, special events, news service, videos and short story club – allows you to work in small classes and intimate settings with leading authors including Cynan Jones, Sarah Hall, A.L Kennedy, Leone Ross and more…

We want you to become part of our inspiring and supportive writing community. As a member we offer you the opportunity to share work and for your writing to be nurtured. And you will be welcomed and looked after by Sophie Haydock and director Cathy Galvin.

Our members are an inviting and highly talented company of writers, eager to share work and to learn. We organise several member only evenings throughout the year.

By becoming a member, you are also helping the sustainability of the only organisation in the UK promoting and supporting excellence in the short story form — a unique not-for-profit literary company run by and for writers — and all of our not-for-profit activities, including our outstanding Apprentice Award, which links emerging writers throughout the country with leading authors in a unique mentoring programme. This year our mentors are Carys Davies, Leone Ross, Chris Power and Lisa Blower

Word Factory has an outstanding year-long programme with partners including Arts Council England, Waterstones Piccadilly, Literature Works, New Writing North, Writing West Midlands, Writing East Midlands and the Society of Authors.

2019 highlights included: an evening with Eimear McBride, Lucy Caldwell, Paul McVeigh, Cathy Galvin and Kit de Waal at the Irish Embassy, London; the launch of our exclusive imprint The Guillemot Factory with Carys Davies, Jessie Greengrass, Adam Marek and David Constantine and wonderful partners, The Guillemot Press.
