Festival on Saturday 29th April and Sunday 30th April at Waterstones Piccadilly! Do drop by to meet them over the weekend at the Word Factory desk on the lower ground floor in Emberton’s Cafe.

Write In!
Divya Ghelani will be calling on passers-by to write on the 2017 Word Factory theme of “Citizenship – the New Story.” Divya, who holds an MA in Creative Writing from UEA and an MPhil in Literary Studies from the University of Hong Kong, and whose work has been recognised in numerous awards, will be encouraging book lovers to write brief stories based on culture, politics, and identity. She’ll be using writing exercises such as the William S. Burroughs ‘cut up’ method, seminal texts, as well as lots of fun visual stimuli to really get your imaginations whirring.

Flash Fiction Focus
The Word Factory is set to launch a brand new Flash Fiction competition and Emily Devane is all set to give you a running start. Emily, whose short stories are widely published and most recently won the 2017 Bath Flash Fiction competition, will be offering visitors brilliant flash fiction tips and skills as well as a special Flash Fiction Workshop on Sunday from 2-3pm.

Coffee with a Comrade
Claire Adam will be hosting Coffee with a Comrade, an opportunity for aspiring writers to discuss their writing. Have you been submitting to short story competitions without success? Or completed an introductory writing course but don’t know what to do next? Or recently finished an MA but you’re now missing the support and structure of a university setting? Drop in for a friendly chat and to exchange ideas on your next steps. Claire has an MA in Creative Writing from Goldsmiths, University of London, and her debut novel will be published next year by Faber. Comrade Claire is also happy to read a sample of your work and discuss it with you – email CoffeeWithAComrade@gmail.com ahead of time to arrange a slot on Saturday 29th April or Sunday 30th April. Max 1500 words please, as well as one or two lines introducing yourself.
